Aquila Theatre Company

Permanent company-in-residence at the Center since 1998, the Aquila Theatre Company is internationally known for its productions of classical drama. Each year Aquila presents its productions at over 70 venues throughout the country. In connection with some of these, the Center for Ancient Studies sponsors outreach events, such as panels at Lincoln Center on "War Poetry" (1999) and at the Folger Shakespeare Library on "Images of Caesar" (2000). A production of Aquila's "Homer's Iliad, Book One" was presented as part of the Center's annual Lewent Conference on "Saving the City" in spring 2002. The spring 2004 Lewent Conference, "Performing Justice," was held in conjunction with Aquila's production of Aeschylus' Agamemnon, featuring Olympia Dukakis and Louis Zorich. Members of the Company also translate and publish Greek plays, teach at NYU, and conduct performance workshops at colleges and institutes throughout the country.
